Summary

This one day training course is designed to raise awareness of human rights ideas, principles and standards and how they relate to equality. It will focus on how human rights provide a practical tool for tackling inequality and disadvantage.

Overview of content:

  • The ideas - introducing human rights origins, key features, principles and standards and how they relate to equality and diversity.
  • The law - how the above ideas are expressed in international and domestic law, primarily focusing on the UK Human Rights Act. Outline of the relevant institutional and policy context (e.g. the Equality and Human Rights Commission).
  • The practice - how human rights issues relate to their work, with practical case studies.

Format

This course is interactive with a mix of presentations, discussions, group and individual exercises and action planning.

Time: 10am-4.30pm
