Course programme
You will first of all study two core modules: Academic Study Skills and History. You will also choose two subject options from the following: Economics; English Literature, History, Politics, Psychology or Sociology. You will have a personal tutor who will support you during the year and who will advise you on your applications to Higher Education institutions. The course requires two days' attendance a week. You will also be expected to undertake private study of 10-15 hours a week in addition to this.
You need to have a Level 2 qualification, or work experience (paid or voluntary) requiring Level 2 organisational or administrative skills. You will be expected to demonstrate academic potential, motivation and commitment through an entry test and interview. For the Humanities route the entry test will consist of a written assessment. For international students, in addition to the above qualifications, you will also need an IELTS 5.5 (with at least 5.0 in each component), or equivalent.
Assessment is by coursework and occasional written examinations.
You can progress onto a range of possible degrees in History, Law, Humanities or Social Sciences. Your course tutor and our careers and Higher Education advisors will give you advice and guidance on your application to university.
