The Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB) Qualification has been developed by the ICAEW and aims to give individuals the opportunity to develop essential knowledge for today's business environment. It enables them to step ahead in their career.

The CFAB Qualification comprises of six modules, whcih can be taken within a year.

It is a route into ACA qualification, and is designed to develop the student's knowledge in finance, accounting and business.

CFAB Modules -

Business and Finance

* business objectives and functions
* business structures
* the role for finance and accounting
* the impact of the external environment

Management Information

* costing and pricing
* budgeting and forecasting
* performance management
* management decision-making

Accounting

* maintaining financial records
* making adjustments to accounting records
* information for the preparation of financial statements

Law

* impact of civil and criminal law on business and professional services
* company and insolvency law
* overall impact of law in the professional context
* ethics

Assurance

* concept, process and need for assurance
* internal controls
* how to gather evidence on an assurance engagement
* professional ethics

Principles of Taxation

* the objectives and types of tax
* income tax
* capital gains tax and corporation tax on chargeable gains
* corporation tax and value-added tax (VAT) principles

Entry requirements

No formal academic qualificatiosn are required.

Exemptions

Individuals with a relevant qualification may be eligible for credits towards the CFAB qualification.

Credits can be only be obtained for a maximum of five modules; the Accounting module is compulsory.

Registration with ICAEW

Registration as a student with ICAEW must be effected prior to taking examinations.

Examination Dates

Each module is examined through a computer-based assessment (CBA) of 1.5 hours long. This enables trainees and employers to schedule examinations at convenient times and dates.
