BTEC Certificate is designed to provide a specialist work-related alternative to an AS-Level GCE.

You will study the following units on this course:

Core Units:
Communication and Employability Skills for ICT
Understand the attributes of employees that are valued by employers in the sector, and develop the important planning and communication skills that are essential in the digital world.

Computer Systems
Understand the hardware and software components of computer systems. Be able to install and maintain the basic hardware and software components of a computer system. Investigate which computer systems are most suitable for specific purposes.

Optional Units:
One additional unit is taught from a selection of the following:

Computer Animation
The aim of this unit is to ensure learners understand types of animation and their uses and develop the knowledge and skills required to use software techniques to design and implement different types of animation. This unit has a strong creative approach to it and many students have progressed to degrees in animation.

Website Production and Management
The aim of this unit is to enable a learner to understand web architecture and the factors that affect its performance and to be able to design and create interactive websites. This unit teaches basic HTML and Javascript coding and many students progress to degrees in web animation.

E-commerce
The aim of this unit is to know the technologies involved in e-commerce, understand the impact of e-commerce on organisations and on society, and be able to plan an e-commerce strategy. Students investigate the latest techniques that organisation must use to market and sell their services online.

Teaching styles

This course is taught using lectures, demonstrations, practical work, group activity and individual study. Teachers are not only well qualified and experienced but also provide students with a high level of professional support.

Key features
This is a very practical course with ample opportunities for hands-on experience. There are possible external visits to see ICT in practice and regular workshop support available.


Assessment
This certificate is project-based and assessed by portfolio. It is graded: Pass, Merit, and Distinction. Students can obtain a Distinction* grade overall.

Resources and Facilities

Students will study in well-equipped classrooms. Each student will have access to a PC – all of which are high specification and are loaded with appropriate up-to-date software.
