ICT
This qualification aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of the ICT sector. They will also develop their ability to work autonomously and effectively, whilst enhancing their skills, knowledge and understanding in specialist areas of ICT, encouraging progression to further and higher education, or employment.Students will learn how to use a variety of software and will learn about DTP, e-mail, multimedia, spreadsheets, word processing, web page design, graphics and animation.The OCR Level 2 National ICT course is made up of five full units and 2 half units. The full units are:
Unit 1: ICT Skills for Business
Unit 2: Webpage Creation
Unit 4: Design and Produce Multimedia Products
Unit 5: Desktop Publishing
Unit 6: Spreadsheets - design and useThe half units are:
Unit 20: Creating Animation for the Web
Unit 21: Creating Computer Graphics
Each unit within the course specification is designed around the principle that candidates will build a portfolio of evidence relating to progression towards meeting the unit assessment objectives.Students bring together the knowledge, skills and understanding they have acquired throughout the unit into one substantial piece of work. This is marked by the teacher and externally moderated.The full award and units from this qualification are graded as Pass, Merit or DistinctionThis qualification has been designed to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding to enable progression to Level 3 qualifications part-time or full-time in further education e.g. GCE Applied ICT, AS/A2 Computing.The qualification is also designed to enable candidates to enter employment at an operative or trainee level within a wide range of Information and Communication Technology environments. Such candidates would normally enter employment through a work-related training programme.For example, a candidate achieving an OCR Level 2 National Certificate in ICT may:
  • enter employment at an operative level, e.g. desktop support
  • enter employment and undertake a related NVQ at a level appropriate to the job
  • enter employment and undertake other related occupational qualifications
