What will I study?
This course aims to develop students understanding and awareness of the rules and people that govern our lives. It is ideal for those who have an interest in law and current affairs or who are keen to know their rights and responsibilities. Why should knowledge of the law be confined to the legal profession? The answer of course is, it shouldn't. There are many roles within areas like retail, commerce, leisure services and security where knowledge of relevant legal principles is essential. The course is suitable for both aspiring legal executives and those working in non-legal roles who need an understanding of relevant legal principles.

How can I progress?
Successful completion fulfils the entry requirements for the ILEX Professional Diploma in Law if you are interesed in a career as a Legal Executive.

What will I need to qualify for this course?
No formal entry requirements. A willingness to learn and the commitment to attend college regularly and complete 2 assignments during the year.

Course Structure
Whilst studying towards this qualification the following modules will be covered; *The legal environment - how disputes are settled, the work of the courts, how cases are paid for, who decides the case and the alternatives to court. How laws are made both in and outside Parliament, by judges and by the European Union. *General legal principles - a broad overview of the main areas of law including criminal law, negligence and contract law. *Choice of Optional Modules For the first unit there is a multi-choice test and for the second and optional units there are assignments to complete.
