Illustrator - Introduction - FULL COST


Who is this course for?
Students who are enthusiastic to create graphics for logos, posters and newsletters. Also, students could create graphics that could be incorporated in Web Pages and Screen Prints.

What previous knowledge/experience are required?
A basic computer knowledge is essential i.e.student has passed a CLAIT qualification. Apple Macintosh computers are used on the course, therefore, a basic knowledge of the Apple Mac computer environment would be advisable.

What is the level of the course?
Introductory Level.

What will the course cover and what can I expect to do by the end of it?
Using Illustrator application tools and features i.e. using palettes and tools, creating, modifying, filling and stroking objects, creating, modifying, and stroking paths, transforming objects i.e. reflect, blend, rotate and scale objects.

Learning outcomes include that you will be able to :
  • Create a new document
  • Save the document in an appropriate format for further working
  • Create simple shapes and paths
  • Select object handles to e.g. alter scale and shape of the object
  • Delete and add anchor points e.g. to alter the shape of an object and/or close and open a path
  • Apply colour to objects and shapes
  • Change the fill colour and stroke colour of objects and shapes
  • Identify layers and place objects/shapes/paths on appropriate layer
  • Group and ungroup objects
  • Create special vector effects such as simple gradients and blends
  • Attach text to a path
  • Set special characters in text e.g. leading, tracking
  • Mix colour to create a new colour
What teaching and learning methods will be used on the course?
Smartboard demonstrations, 1 to 1 support, handouts, individual and group tasks and project work supported with verbal and written feedback.

How will we assess your progress on the course?
On-going assessment of work including completion of tasks and projects.

What type of qualification will passing this course give me?
OCN qualification.

What extra study/practice do we expect you to do outside the class?
Students need to commit to making time outside of class to practice; at home or in the college using the Mac and G5 Server facilities. You are able to access your work from the server if you are practicing in the college. You may also take resource materials home if you bring a USB key.

What can I do after completing this course?
Illustrator 2 intermediate course.
