Exciting techniques are now available to graphic designers using Adobe Illustrator. This practical course will provide you with a basic introduction to drawing and design with this software.

About this course

Understand the Adobe Illustrator interface.
Use the drawing tools to create basic shapes and designs.
Create, format and manipulate text
Apply effects to text
Use the pen tool to create and manipulate curves.
Create brush patterns.
Use the transformation tools to transform shapes.

The latest professional equipment and software are available for your use throughout the course.
It would be useful to bring a memory stick (or portable hard drive – please note PC formatted hard drives can be read by Apple mac computers, but not written to.)

Introduction to the Illustrator environment.
Paths, stroke and fill.
Blends and gradients.
Introduction to Bezier pen tools.
Creating brush patterns.
Manipulating text and text on a curve.
Effects with text.
Using the transformation tools.
Saving work.

You will be taught using a range of techniques including workshops, short lectures, demonstrations, practical exercises, tutorials, group and individual assistance and hand-outs. Please note the City Lit uses Apple Mac computers in Digital arts, Film, Animation, Graphics, Illustration, Photography and Web design.
