About this course

This is an enhancement course for which you need to be able to use a computer confidently, be familiar with standard applications such as wordprocessing and have an interest in developing your digital graphics skills. It would help if you have already used photo-editing or web-design software.

OCR Level 2
About the Course
To achieve the OCR Level 2 Certificate qualification you need three units, and for the OCR Level 2 Diploma qualification you need five units. There is one mandatory unit, the rest are optional. The optional units allow you to develop skills in a range of different applications. Certification is also available for single units. Each unit is regarded as a worthwhile achievement in its own right. Units are graded pass or fail only. You have the option of achieving as many or as few units as are appropriate for your own learning needs, or employment situation.
Currently the Units available are as follows:
Mandatory:
Unit 1 Digital Graphics
This unit is designed to provide you with an understanding of the types and uses of digital graphics. You will develop your skills in using digital image manipulation software to edit images to a particular specification and will be able to save these in different formats for different purposes.
As a result of studying this unit you will be able to:
• use a digital camera to obtain images and transfer these electronically
• use the basic editing tools and features of a digital image manipulation program
• edit a digital graphic for a particular purpose.
Optional:
Unit 2 Web Authoring
This unit is designed to give you an understanding of the capabilities of web authoring and the skills involved in building a website. You will develop an understanding of the requirements and capabilities of web authoring and the necessary resources. You will be able to use appropriate software to create, add content and publish a website.
Other optional units which may be introduced, depending on demand, include:
Unit 3 Digital Animation, Unit 4 Interactive Multimedia Concepts, Unit 5 Digital Sound, Unit 6 Digital Video, Unit 7 2D Game Engines, Unit 8 Game Design.
Course Aims

What are the entry requirements?
How is the course assessed?
You will work on assignments for each unit. All units are assessed by your teacher in college and then externally moderated by the exam board (OCR). You will create an e-Portfolio to submit your completed assessments to OCR.
Fees
No Course Fees for Under 19's. Over 19's must pay, or claim Level 2 or Level 3 Entitlement for FREE courses .
What next?
It†s likely you could be preparing for work in one or more of the following areas: web design, graphic art, multimedia production, flash animation, 3D animation, sound design and editing, special effects, video production, logo/titles design, desktop publishing, games design, storyboarding. You may want to move on to more specialised courses in computing and ICT, photography or multimedia.
