About this course
You should have a good range of GCSE passes, with some at grade D or above particularly in English and Mathematics.

About the Course
This is a one-year course in which you study six units, the two Core Units plus four other units. You will enjoy covering topics through practical assignments, exercises, and projects. These will be related to work in the ICT sector.
Core Units
• Using ICT to Present Information Learn about different types of document, their layout, who they are for, and how to produce them using ICT.
• Introduction to Computer Systems Learn about different types of software, applications and systems software, and make sure the computer runs efficiently.
Four Other Units, which could include
• Website Development Plan, design and create a website.
• ICT Graphics Create and modify graphic images using different software applications.
• Database Software Database design, developing practical skills in the use of forms and reports.
• Spreadsheet Software Examples of the use of spreadsheets in industry, developing your practical skills.
• Installing Hardware Components The skills and knowledge to replace, upgrade or install components.
• Mobile Communication Study wireless technologies, mobile devices, and future possibilities.
• Networking Essentials A look at the way networks are used to enhance the activities of organisations.

How is the course assessed?
There is continuous assessment of your progress through a portfolio of assignments for each unit. These are marked in College and externally verified by Edexcel.
Fees
No Course Fees for Under 19's. Over 19's must pay, or claim Level 2 or Level 3 Entitlement for FREE courses .
What next?
The BTEC is recognised by employers and education institutions. You could go into employment or further training in the computing and IT industry. With a Merit grade, and GCSE English and Maths at Grade C, you could progress to higher qualifications such as Applied ICT or Computing at A level, or BTEC National Diploma.
