Why study ICT on a vocational course?
If you are interested in a career in ICT or Computing and would like to know as much as possible about the practical side of ICT, and also learn the theory behind it, then this is the course for you. These courses contain a package of qualifications that will prepare you for employment or further study in ICT.

How are the courses structured?
The OCR National Certificate level 2 is a combination of modules including creating websites and multimedia applications as well as standard software applications such as Databases, Spreadsheets and Desk Top Publishing. You will complete 8 hours of study each week so really need a keen interest in the subject. This is a 1 year course.

The BTEC National certificate is a 2 year course and is spread across 8 hours a week so is ideal for anyone wanting to go into IT as a career. It is modular based and each module has been chosen to ensure any student wanting a career as a technician, network engineer or programmer is well equipped for the world of work. It includes hardware, systems analysis and programming.

The BTEC National Certificate for IT Practitioners
This course consists of 12 units which include hardware, web design and installing software. Assessment is by portfolio units (coursework). It is equal in value to two A levels.

What are the entry requirements?
You must have at least 4 GCSE grade C†s in at least three different subjects to take the ICT Vocational Level 3. If you want to be able to take one AS level subject alongside your vocational course, you will need 5 grade C†s in at least four different subjects, to include English or Maths.

The OCR Level 2 Certificate in ICT
This course consists of 6 units, one of which is compulsory: IT skills for work. In addition you will study five optional units chosen from a package of twenty four options. All units are portfolio based and either internally marked by your teachers or externally assessed by the exam board. There are no formal exams. Possible units may include animation, images for the world wide web, and web design.
