The qualification is aimed at employees who are working in a library/ learning resources/ information centre environment either in education, health, industry or the voluntary sector. The qualification will enable the employee to identify ways in which to improve the service, particularly in relation to customers, managing resources, developing information and ILT skills, managing health and safety and manual handling.
Funding may also be available for all or part of the training programme depending on eligibility.
Entry Requirements:
There are no entry requirements for the level 2 qualification, however, the employee must be working in the environment for at least 16 hours per week, and have the potential and opportunity to find evidence in the work place in order to build the portfolio.
Mandatory Requirements:
There are three mandatory units:
IL2/1 Maintain the arrangement of material to facilitate retrieval
IL2/2 Identify and provide information and material required by users
IL2/3 Solve problems for customers (CSLB Unit 4 Level 2)
And the candidate must select three further units from a range of optional units – at least one unit from each section:
Option Group 1 – User services
IL2/4 Direct users
IL2/5 Issue and recover loan material
IL2/6 Enable the use of information technology (ITNTO 201)
IL2/7 Provide and maintain information for clients (CAMPAG A10)
IL2/8 Process payments for purchases (DNTO 2/19)
Option Group 2 – Activities
IL2/9 Process and secure information and material
IL2/10 Contribute to the maintenance of a supportive environment for Users
IL2/11 Display stock to specification to attract customer interest and promote sales (DNTO 2/1)
IL2/12 Produce documents using word processing software (ITNTO 202)
How the Candidate will be assessed:
The candidate is assessed in the workplace by an Assessor who is experienced in this area of work. They will visit once every four – six weeks at a mutually convenient time in order to help the candidate prepare the evidence required, undertake observations, and give guidance in the underpinning knowledge required for the portfolio.
How long does the qualification take to achieve:
Most candidates complete their NVQ level 2 in 12 – 18 months depending on their workload, and their work hours.
