Course programme

This course provides a hands-on and practical approach to innovation management, and is delivered by lecturers from Central Saint Martins respected MA in Innovation Management. The course is results-oriented, and provides an overview of the whole innovation process, from idea origination, through to designing and launching an innovation implementation and management plan.

The course will be taught through a combination of practical online workshops with weekly assignments, and specific multimedia material. You will be assigned practical tasks each week to complete outside of the lessons. These will develop your innovation project, and you will receive personal developmental feedback on your work each week. To get the best results from the course, it is recommended that you spend 1.5 hours a week on your assignments.



Topics
The course will be split into three sections;

  1. Stage One: Contexts and Possibilities
    • Selecting areas for innovation (and selecting your personal project)
    • Context and Stakeholder analysis
  2. Stage Two: Developing an Innovation Project
    • Setting the objectives for an innovation project
    • Understanding the innovation application paths
    • Planning innovation strategies, processes and workshops
    • Elaborating the content of the processes and workshops
  3. Stage Three: Output and Delivery
    • Writing the backbone of an innovation management plan
    • Delivering the innovation management plan



Outcomes
By the end of this course you will;

  • Gain the knowledge and skills to structure, write and deliver a basic innovation management plan
  • Learn the importance of contextual innovation
  • Understand how to apply specific approaches to different contexts and organisations
  • Complete a visual and written innovation plan which can be applied in real life situations
  • Receive feedback from industry professionals and CSM lecturers on a real project you are involved in

The course is practical, and so it will suit managers or entrepreneurs, innovation and product managers who are currently or planning to be involved in innovation management.
