Interactive Media - Creative and Media Advanced Diploma

Subject category:
Media and E-Media

What will I study?
This Diploma is based on the core disciplines of Interactive Media, Animation, Graphics, Photo Imaging and Advertising. This is a digital media design and production course based in an Apple Mac studio.

Duration:
Two years

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
The Advanced Diploma includes an additional qualification such as an A Level or BTEC National Award chosen by the student in agreement with the course tutor. Learners can make their learning more specialised by choosing an additional course that is related to Interactive Media (such as Photography, Film and Television or Art and Design). Alternatively they might decide to choose a different subject that broadens the learning experience. The Diploma includes work related experience, as well as trips, visits, visiting speakers and workshops.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment is primarily through observation and presentation of practical productions, supported by written coursework, group critique and individual tutorial. Students will be encouraged to assess their skills and progress honestly, and to critique their work constructively. Students are assessed on their ability to research the contexts of their work; record, analyse and review their own development and contribution to projects; plan and prepare public exhibition of work; work to briefs and for target audiences; investigate and research creative practitioners and demonstrate a clear understanding of how disciplines, skills and teams work together to produce work in the creative industries. Assessment is also through critical evaluation of practical work and students must produce a written study of professional practice, supported by a research log. Students will also need to pass functional skills tests in English, Maths and ICT at Level 2 as a minimum requirement.

What can I do afterwards?
This course provides excellent preparation for progression into Higher Education. Many of our students go on to study for a degree in an area of digital media, including the Foundation Degree in Digital Media Design we offer here at Sussex Downs College. Students have also obtained work or set themselves up as freelance professionals in digital media.

Are there any additional costs involved?
Students will need to buy coursework materials such as project folders, sketchbooks, CDs or DVDs. They may be required to have design work professionally printed for exhibition. Its also useful to have a storage device such as a USB stick or external hard drive.
