Course Overview
This course provides a firm basis for those who wish to follow a career in Interior Design. It is also suitable for those who wish to learn more about Interior Design for their own home. The full qualification is approximately equivalent to a Level 2.
Course Structure
This course is delivered over one years for 2½ days (max. 16 hours) per week. The programme of study is made up of three programmes:
- Planning a room
- Decorative effects
- Diploma L1 Painting & Decorating
Covering:
- Design and planning
- Technical drawing
- Researching Interior spaces
- Preparation of surfaces
- Application of paint
- Paperhanging
- Decorative paint techniques
- Final design for domestic interiors
Note: Visits to exhibitions, museums and other places of interest are an essential part of the course.
Qualification Aims
Successful students may be able to progress onto:
- L2 Diploma in Painting and Decorating
- Access courses to Higher Education
- A career in Interior Design
- 2D Auto Cad
Assessments/Examinations
The course consists of 1Core unit that has 6 Assessments plus 3 folders of work.
Painting & Decorating has continual assessment plus 1 online exam.
Cost / Equipment
Tuition Fees =£495
Tuition is free for those aged 16 - 18 yrs
Free tuition is also available to those in receipt of certain means tested benefits or to their un-waged dependants. If you are not on benefits but find it difficult to pay any course related costs because of financial hardship, contact Student Welfare on 01843 605048 to make an appointment with a welfare advisor.
Equipment
An A4 folder/file, pens and pencils, a rubber, a ruler, water colour or acrylic paints; design boards, correction fluid and glue stick, will also be needed.
Approx cost of these items will be£30.
Help with essential equipment costs may be available to students who experience financial difficulties.
