Intermediate Apprenticeship - Carpentry: Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery

This apprenticeship is ideal for you if you want to gain professional level skills in carpentry and the essential knowledge for progression in the construction industry.

This programme covers site carpentry techniques and skills which will enable you to construct and fit various structures such as roofs, stairs, kitchen units, as well as erecting and fixing doors and windows.

Some of the topics covered include:

• Conforming to general workshop safety

• Conforming to efficient work practises

• Moving and handling resources

• Setting up and using circular saws

• Maintaining non-structural carpentry work

The learning experience is a mix of classroom based theory lessons and practical workshops designed to help you develop skills the industry needs.

You will develop your skills using industry standard facilities and materials. In 2014 Ofsted described the College’s workshops as “spacious and well-organised environments, where students can work productively, in an orderly fashion, using safe working practices.”

Good English and maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities.

It’s also important to have good English and maths qualifications and so all students will study English and maths and work towards an appropriate level and type of qualification including GCSE.
