Course programme

Course Overview

This programme will give you a chance to learn about the different trades, materials and methods of construction. You will also learn about the different forms of construction and get to repair roofs, walls, ceilings, brickwork and tiles surfaces.

This course is ideal if you already possess skills in two or more of the following disciplines: carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating, tiling, plastering, roofing or trowel occupations.

Some of the topics covered include:

  • Conforming to general, health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace
  • Maintaining non-structural carpentry work in the workplace

The learning experience is a mix of classroom based theory lessons and practical workshops designed to help you develop the skills required in the industry.

At the College you will be learning in industry standard facilities such as workshops. In 2014, Ofsted described the College’s workshops as “spacious and well-organised environments, where students can work productively, using safe working practices.”

Good English and maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities.

It’s also important to have good English and maths qualifications and so all students will study English and maths and work towards an appropriate level and type of qualification including GCSE.
