Course Outline
Are you self-taught in editing on Avid or is it some time since you have done the Avid MC 101 course? This course is designed to re-ignite your creative potential on Avid, teaching new skills and greater efficiency, whilst focusing on how to maximize your creative input through best use of the tools at your disposal. This course has a flexible structure built around the specific needs of the participants. The combination of targeted tuition and intense hand-on sessions allow participants to experience editing in the workplace. The latest version of Media Composer software installed in Vet’s training suites enable participants to familiarise themselves with up-to-date tools and functionality.

Course Type
You can bring in 30 minutes worth of camera material on mini DV or DVCam to use for editing on Avid. Alternatively, you can choose to work on material made available by VET. The tutor will be available throughout day 1 & 3 and the tutored days will be spent in a mixture of training sessions, practical exercises and editing under guidance with day 2 spent on the individual editing project, using VET facilities and without a tutor.

  • Understanding how to structure a sequence in order to tell the story effectively
  • Editing sequences in different styles
  • Organising material efficiently
  • Importing stills, graphics, movies and audio elements
  • Advanced tools and techniques on Avid
  • Creating effects and how to use them appropriately
  • Taking an edit from assembly, to rough cut and fine cut
  • Implementing requests and notes given by a director/producer
  • Evaluating and making appropriate changes to own work in progress
  • Understanding the terminology used in the edit suite
  • Create a DigiCut and export files in different formats

This course is aimed at
Editors, junior editors or producers wishing to hone their editing skills.

Prerequisites
Participants should be familiar with either Avid Media Composer or Avid Xpress Pro.
