Managers in all sectors are required to take account of the financial impact of their decisions. Whether they are being required to approve the purchase of new plant and machinery, increase or decrease the workforce, increase marketing efforts or authorise the new strategic and budget plans, one of the key aspects of the decision is the financial impact. Managers therefore need to understand financial reports , be able to question the information provided in them and make decisions based upon the information provided by them. This module seeks to enable participants to make well informed decisions based upon a sound knowledge of financial reports, systems and developments in the accounting and financial environment.

“It must be considered that there is nothing more difficult to carry out, nor more doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to handle, than to initiate a new order of things.” Machiavelli, The Prince. (1513) Though these words were written nearly 500 hundred years ago as a political treatise by the Italian diplomat, historian and political theorist Niccolò Machiavelli – they echo through history as a powerful reminder of the uncertain and complex nature of change. The rate of change in organisations is accelerating and the nature of that change is in itself changing; increasingly shifting from incremental to transformational change. This changing landscape requires organisations and individuals capable of harnessing enterprise, creativity and innovation. Enterprise usually arises out of proactive individuals, capable of acting as change catalysts, to initiate and champion change, building a network of support and developing the climate for change to happen. This module is intended to develop your skills and knowledge to engage in change leadership within an organisation. The module is comprised of four topic areas that you will study: Entrepreneurial Change Leadership; The climate & culture for change; Entrepreneurial Learning & opportunity creation and Planning & managing change projects. Together these four topics will provide you with a framework for examining entrepreneurial change in organisations and an opportunity to develop the necessary skills and capabilities to undertake change projects.

  1. Critically analyse the use of the key functional areas of marketing, HR, finance, accounting and operations management in support of wider organisational activity.
  2. Critically evaluate strategic planning alternatives to take account of business environmental conditions.
  3. Critically evaluate the relationship between the organisation and its global environment and the importance of change and adaptability.
  4. Evaluate the role and contribution of creativity and innovation in the development of organisations
  5. Critically analyse contemporary issues, challenges and problems relating to business and management that impact on business and management at functional, strategic and international levels.
  6. Synthesise relevant critical thinking through academic research completing an independent research project/dissertation at masters level
  7. Analyse the different approaches and techniques that facilitate detailed study at the postgraduate level in business and management issues.
