Course programme
The initial parts of the course will focus on understanding the characteristics of wood and stone as materials and awareness of tool techniques. We will make small maquettes (small models), in clay or plasticene, before embarking on a piece in stone or wood. Along with techniques of carving, you will also be made aware of possibilities for construction and incorporating other materials or objects. These techniques will be taught and explored as your carving progresses. We will be looking at the work of many sculptors both historical and contemporary.
