Introduction to Archaeology

OCN Level 2

Course Description
The aim of this course is to introduce learners to the world of archaeology and how it plays a part in our community. The course will cover areas such as the different types of archaeological evidence, how to treat it and what it means. We will also look at the importance of human remains and what this can teach us about religions and cultures of the past. Furthermore we will look at archaeological legislation and what this means to our local heritage. The course will also include a field trip to a local archaeological site to put your new-found archaeological knowledge to the test.

Assessment
The course will be assessed at the end of each unit via verbal and short written work. This will end with a project on the site that we have visited.

This is an evening course.
