Course programme
During the course we will explore ways to stimulate a fresh and innovative response to drawing the figure. There will be a series of guided exercises looking at: a sensitive use of line, expressive mark-making, tone, composition, mixed media, the figure in movement, imaginative uses of colour and the role of imagination. You will be introduced to a range of drawing media and techniques to inspire new directions or support confidence in starting figure drawing. We will also explore the role of spontaneity, perception and empathy in creating drawings that express clarity, aliveness and a sense of meaning and a number of artist’s work, as references to the specific exercises taught and for inspiration. You will be introduced to ways of evaluating your work and begin to make informed decisions regarding its development.
