Introduction to Local Government

Increasingly, the character in which decisions are made at a localised level have a wide ranging effect on the style and delivery of public policy. Today, understanding the process of localised decision making has become a crucial point of learning for public affairs professionals, whose organisations wish to gain the support of stakeholders.

With all this in mind Parli-training has launched a course designed to explain recent trends and changes in how Local Government works. Aimed at all public affairs professionals, the course charts and explains the most significant changes which have taken place in Local Government over the last 15 years, the character and style of Local Government and offers some detailed analysis of the professional culture which dominates the way Local Government acts today.

This course also provides a detailed session explaining in full, the ramifications and detail of the planning process; setting out in clear terms, the varied approaches to localised lobbying activity and how best to liaise with local politicians. The course also offers a review of the working relationship of local councillors and council officials and explains how they individually execute their various core tasks.
