About this course

- Describe the formation of government in the U.S.A.
- Identify the three branches of government and what the 'Separation of Powers' means
- Understand the issues raised in the 2014 mid-term elections and how they might effect the next presidential election
- Discuss the relationship between state level government and the federal level government.

Course programme

- The origins of U.S. government and American democracy
- The three branches of government and Separation of Powers
- Federal vs State government powers
- Voting system and role of the Electoral College; recall and referendums
- Current issues: eg health-care debate.

The class will be delivered through a presentation, accompanied by PowerPoint slides. We will use a variety maps, images, video and text throughout the sessions.
