This beginner’s level course in woodturning, has been developed to take students with little or no experience and over the day build up the confidence and skills enabling the candidates to consider the long duration introductory course
Running with lower numbers that the evening course, candidates will be instructed and shown how to safely operate the lathe with the aim of producing 2 quality items
All the projects pieces made can be taken home at the end of the day with no additional charge. The material costs are included within the course fee
The course delivered in partnership with WOOD AND STUFF LTD Lytham, Lancashire http://www.olivewoodturning.co.uk/ and will cover the following topics;
- Workshop Familiarisation
- Introduction to a lathe
- Basic tool use
- Introduction to different turning styles
- Tool sharpening objectives
- Turning speeds
- Sanding & Finishing
PROJECTS
- Basic cuts (Test piece - 'bumpy shiny stick')
- Bowl and/or Pen

(Please note this course is not held at the Myerscough College, Bilsborrow campus)
All tools, materials and tuition will be provided by WOOD AND STUFF LTD at their specialist training workshop in Lytham
Lunch is not provided. Please bring a packed lunch or to note that there is a McDonalds and Lidl store within walking distance of the venue
Items listed may be altered without notice depending on availability of materials and mechanisms.
Students are expected to wear suitable clothing (not loose fitting) or a specialist apron, suitable footwear (not canvas or open-toed). Loose fitting jewellery to be removed.
