About this course
You will have at least 4 GCSEs at grade C. At least THREE must be from : English Language or Literature/Humanities (History,Geography,RS,Sociology,Psychology)/Business/Science (Core and Additional OR triple)/Maths. Alternatively you will have a DISTINCTION in a Level 2 Diploma OR an NVQ2 OR a CACHE Cert.

IT Practitioner National Diploma
The BTEC National Diploma IT Practitioner course offers a vocational approach to computing. Each unit combines practical work on computers with theory lessons covering the underpinning concepts and knowledge. The units have been chosen to give students an opportunity to gain skills and knowledge in the field of software support and development. Students will learn software designs alongside supporting and maintaining computer systems.
What does the course involve?
The course covers 18 units spread over two years and is a 15 hour course. Students get an opportunity to learn about how problems can be solved using technology and they will develop skills in the production and support of software. Students will study a wide range of topics including, in the first year, communication and employability skills, computer systems, information systems, software design and development, website production and management, event driven programming, client side scripting, web server scripts and exploring business activity.
What will I study?
The National Diploma is an excellent qualification for students who are considering a career in the IT industry. For students wanting an end-user focus to their IT studies the Applied A level in ICT may be more appropriate.
Students receive a grade of Pass Merit or Distinction for each unit. A Distinction overall is equivalent to three 'A' levels at grade 'A'.
The National Diploma is well established and well regarded by both employers and higher education institutions. Students who decide their future is in IT may go on to study the Foundation Degree in Computing offered by the college, in association with Bath University, or other degree courses.
Students will study a wide range of topics including; Introduction to Software Development, Systems Analysis, Visual Programming, Website Management, E-Commerce.
