  • Minimum Literacy Level: Level 2

  • Reading: You can read and summarise information by selecting and using different types of documents to obtain relevant information; skim and scan documents to gain a general idea of content and identify the information you need; recognise the writer's intentions and identify the main points, ideas and lines of reasoning; summarise information to suit your purpose.   • Minimum Numeracy Level: Level 1

  • Interpret Information: You can read and understand tables, charts, graphs and diagrams; read and understand numbers used in different ways; read scales on familiar measuring equipment using everyday units; make accurate observations; identify suitable calculations to get the results you need for your task. Carry out calculations: You can add and subtract, with whole numbers and simple decimals, with or without a calculator; work to the level of accuracy you have been told to use; multiply and divide a simple decimal by a whole number with or without a calculator; understand and calculate simple fractions and percentages; work out the area and volum of rectangular-based shapes; use scale on diagrams; use ratio and proportion; find the average or mean of up to 10 items; find the range for up to 10 items.


What qualification will I receive?
City and Guilds Level NVQ 3 Certificate for IT Professional (ICT System Support). However, each unit represents a worthwhile achievement in its own right and certification is also available for each unit.

Where can it lead?
It is possible to progress towards Higher Education or other networking courses such as the Novell Netware CAN/CNE, N+, Cisco CCNA, and/or Microsoft MCP/MCSA. It should be possible to apply for computer/help desk assistant posts in companies, schools etc.

What will I study?

How will I be taught?
Practical work makes up the main part of the course. Some units involve setting up individual PCs and networks. Other units focus on testing and fault finding for both stand-alone machines and networks. You are also required to study Cisco on line materials and complete end of chapter tests

How will I be assessed?
Each unit is assessed by an assignment issued by City and Guilds.

Support is offered through the workshop which will back up the theory work each week and will prepare you for the assessments.
