Who is this course for?
If you are interested in Information and Communication Technology and are willing to explore new ideas for developing working skills, then this course could be for you. This course is particularly suitable for you if you have an interest in hardware and you might want to train to become a computer technician.

What are the entry requirements?
You will be required to have 4 GCSEs Grade E to F or the equivalent. Induction is taken very seriously at this college. You will follow a five week induction where your suitability for the level and type of programme your are hoping to be on will be assessed. Successful completion of the induction period will confirm your place on a course.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.

  • Minimum Literacy Level: Entry 2
  • You can read and understand short pieces of writing such as letters, messages, simple stories, timetables and adverts. You can write short pieces of writing - for example an email to a friend, a simple letter, a story or a message. Minimum Numeracy Level: Entry 2

You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams. You can add and subtract simple numbers and use simple fractions. You can use money, tell the time, measure things and know about squares, triangles and rectangles.

What qualification will I receive?
BTEC Introductory Diploma in ITWork (System Support) which is equivalent to four GCSEs at Grade D.

Where can it lead?
You could progress to a BTEC First course or directly to employment.

What will I study?
The Introductory Diploma is made up of eight units which include PC systems, starting work in the IT industry, IT applications, developing IT skills, as well as communications and application of number.

How will I be taught?
You will be timetabled for 18 hours a week at the College, which will be spent in practical work on computers and theoretical work in the classroom. In addition, you will be required to spend an additional 20 hours on private study. Teaching strategies will include lectures, class exercises, working in groups, research, watching videos, group discussions and visits.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through class tests and portfolio work.

What support is available while I am on the course?
You will have access to a personal tutor to you throughout the course. The College also offers a comprehensive range of student services including learning support, language support and guidance.
