Italian Advanced Conversation

Your Course
The course is aimed at those who have studied Italian for 2-3 years and wish to practise their spoken Italian at a more sustained level. The emphasis will be on communication and the course aims, where appropriate, to integrate the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing in the development of linguistic competence.
Learning Outcomes
You will have the opportunity to:
· Develop a good understanding of the relevant grammar and vocabulary
· Manipulate the language accurately and choose appropriate structures
· Improve your ability to communicate more effectively
· Read and listen to a variety of material to stimulate interest and increase your cultural knowledge of the country
· Discuss topics of your own choice and to make you feel that the conversation class is your own special 'space'.
The main topic areas will be:
· Historia: Dalla Caduta del fascismo ai giorni nostri. This topic will be completed during the summer term
· Il Ruolo dei Media: Il giornalismo italiano; Scelta di articoli di famosi giornalisti e giornaliste.
· Politica e Societa:
· La politica italiana: caratteristiche ed i principali protagonisti
· L'Italia e l'Europa.
· La societa' milticulturale.
· Schede sui vari aspetti della vita quotidiana e.g. la famiglia, la scuola, la religone, lo sport, la ricerca, la moda.
· Tutela dell'ambiente.
· La Musica ed il Cinema:
· Il melodrama Italiano: Il maggiori protagonisti. Ascolto di un'opera a scelta degli studenti.
·Il cinema, la societa' e la storia: "La meglio gioventu'" film by Marco Tullio Giordana
The main aspects of grammar will be: revision of verbs e.g. regular and irregular forms, impersonal verbs, modal verbs, verbs followed by an infinitive with or without a preposition, all Tenses, the passive voice, and Indirect speech.

Your Tutor
Guisseppina Hassan Morselli comes from Brescia, near the lake of Garda in Northern Italy, and studied Sociolinguistics in Milan. In 1972 she moved to Cambridge, where since the mid-seventies, she has been teaching Italian and French from Beginners to AS/A level and a variety of ELIC language courses including the Italian Intermediate Diploma course [IOL]. She has run a number of day-time workships for holiday Italian. She teaches Italian to university students {UCL and Cambridge} on a private basis and also teaches a range of tailor made courses of business Italian for professional people. She has also worked in business and translation and is very interested in other languages and cultures, especially of South Asia. Her leisure interests include music, ballet, history and literature.

Tuition fees: £ 95
Method of payment: Fees for short courses (10 weeks or less) to be paid in full at enrolment and for long courses (12 weeks or more) fees of 50% can be paid at enrolment plus 50% as a cheque. Course places cannot be reserved without receipt of both payments.
Half term:
Please note that there are no classes during half term Monday 15th - Friday 19th February 2010 unless otherwise stated.
