Holistic Massage
This diploma will provide the learner with the opportunities to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential in allowing a massage therapist to work competently and safely.

Anatomy and Physiology
The Anatomy and Physiology Diploma is the 'foundation' upon which all other Complementary and Sports Therapy awards at RNC are based. It comprises several units, encompassing all systems of the body, which must be achieved prior to progressing to additional qualifications.

It is essential for therapists to have a sound understanding of anatomy and physiology; and, a comprehensive knowledge of diseases and disorders of the human body, so that they are aware of when and when not to treat a client.

  • The skin
  • The cell
  • Circulatory and lymphatic systems
  • Neurological system
  • Endocrine system
  • Respiratory system
  • Digestive system
  • Urinary system
  • Reproductive system
Professional Conduct and Business Awareness
This diploma prepares the new therapist for working within the industry and covers legislation relating to good practice, building customer relations and developing a business in the complementary therapy.

Learners will study the basic principles of professionalism within the service industry, focussing on the Codes of Practise and Ethics for Therapists. The legal aspects for business will be covered in conjunction with all the health safety and security requirements for a salon environment.

Learners will also cover all information required in setting up and maintaining a clinic/private practice. You will demonstrate the skills required to set-up and maintain a business.

Qualification?
When you come for assessment we will work with you to identify the appropriate start date, duration, level of study and content, which will help you achieve your personal and employment goals.

Work Placements
Work placement opportunities and supported placements in professional working environments are undertaken to enable you to further develop your experience. These can last between three and six months.

During their time at RNC, learners will also experience over 200 hours of 'hands on' training within the public clinics held twice weekly in the College's state-of-the-art new Complementary Therapies centre. Learners will also experience working with external clients and organisations, when they attend organised days with local voluntary groups, i.e. Herefordshire Carers Society, Red Cross.

What next?
Many learners also use this programme to progress onto one of the other complementary or sports therapy diplomas available at RNC.

Training is designed to prepare adults to become professional massage therapists and graduates are then qualified for self-employment through their own or home visiting practice. For those seeking employment, job opportunities exist in:

  • Professional football and sports clubs
  • Fire and rescue services and other public sector departments including hospitals
