Course programme

Your course will build on your existing knowledge of the guitar and aims to give you basic skills to enable you to play simple jazz chords and melody lines and to improvise over simple jazz chord progressions and tunes.
You will learn to play several jazz standards (songs) including the 12-bar blues in the jazz idiom, picking out the melody and providing rhythm guitar accompaniment. In addition to the basic scales, arpeggios and chords that a jazz guitarist needs to know, the course will introduce you to music theory, ear training and rhythmic awareness and direct you to key recordings by the leading guitarists in jazz.
