It has long been known that crafts such as jewellery-making encourage focus and concentration, helping lower stress levels. This textile-based jewellery workshop will introduce you to how awareness of your habitual thoughts can (or not) aid you in the learning process and how this practice can help you overcome blocks in beginning creative projects. From this workshop you will come away with a colourful and tactile coiled cotton cord bracelet, whilst introducing you to the practice of mindfulness and achieving general well-being through enjoying working with your hands. You'll pick up elemental textile cord-making skills guided by an experienced textile artist and jeweller, and receive practical instructions to continue it as a regular craft hobby at home.
What previous students loved about this course:
"I liked the approach to working with textiles applied to jewellery making. I enjoyed the basics of breathing - mindfulness."

Course programme

We will begin with a brief discussion on recognising thought patterns, body sensation and breath awareness. You will then be guided step by step how to sew, wrap and bind natural cotton rope with coiled embroidery threads. You will create a bracelet by knotting and sewing a knot and loop fastening that complements your rope bracelet. The simple yet effective techniques are based on elemental textile craft traditions and can be practiced at home.
