Spend 5 intensive days learning the fantastic technique of working with the magical material that is metal clay.

Metal clay is a clay based substance containing millions of tiny silver particles. When you fire the clay under a torch or in a kiln all of the clay burns away and you are left with solid silver - its like magic!

This course is designed for anyone who would like to learn a vast range of techniques in a short space of time. Each day covers three projects which are constructed to introduce you to all different techniques. Please be aware that this is a very intensive course as we pack lots of information into each day so come prepared.

Day 1 - Beginners Metal Clay - Techniques covered in this class include:
- Rolling out the clay to a consistent thickness
- Texturing and cutting out shapes
- Sanding, polishing and drilling
- Torch firing and basics of kiln firing
- Basic stone setting
- Adding multiple layers of clay and much more.

Day 2 - Beads and Hollow Forms in Metal Clay - Techniques covered in this class include:
- Making lentil beads.
- Triangle wrap beads with basic stone settings.
- How to use syringe and cork clay to create beads.
- Pandora beads.
...and much more!

Day 3 - Ring Making in Metal Clay - Techniques covered in this class include:
- Creating band rings
- Some basic stone settings for rings
- Ring sizing in metal clay

Day 4 - Stone Setting in Metal Clay - Techniques covered in this class include:
- Setting natural stones in metal clay
- Creating bezels in metal clay
- Combining glass with metal clay
- Drill setting CZ'z in metal clay

Day 5 - Adding Gold to Metal Clay - Techniques covered in this class include:
- Keum-boo (adding a layer of gold on top of our pieces).
- Using casting grain (embedding these in to your metal clay pieces).
- Painting in gold paste.
- Firing gold paste and foils

All of our expert tutors for this class have either run or are currently running their own successful jewellery business and have lots of inside hints and tips to share with you.

What you need to bring to this class: For this class you don't need to bring anything but yourself as everything is provided.

General Info: As with all of our classes, all materials are included in the cost of the class as well as plenty of tea coffee and luxury biscuits! The classes are all run by expert tutors with years of professional experience who are friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. The size of the classes is kept small to allow plenty of one-on-one attention and the maximum number of students for this class is 8.

We take an hour break for lunch and there are plenty of local shops to get food from, or you can always bring a packed lunch to eat in the studio. If you have any questions regarding this, or other courses please don't hesitate to get in touch.
