About the course:
This programme aims to develop both your academic and practical, work-related skills and you will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It is equivalent to 3 A Levels which means when you have finished the course you can choose whether to go into higher education or employment.

Course Content:
Print media professionals play an important part in communicating vital information in an increasingly complex world.

The kinds of positions available in this exciting and constantly innovating industry include those for writers, editors, journalists, reporters, researchers and hundreds of others.

This course will give you a more comprehensive understanding of the specialist skills and knowledge needed to help you begin a successful career in media production, with a focus on the print-based media sector. You will gain insight into the career opportunities available in the media industry, enabling you to make an informed choice regarding career progression or moving on to further study.

The course is designed to be adaptable to your abilities and career aspirations. It consists of five core units, two mandatory specialist units, plus your choice of further specialist units. The structure of the course allows you to focus on areas which will be most helpful to you.

Learning Style:
Students will be taught in the media studio or classrooms, using appropriate equipment. Work will include group work and individual tasks.

Assessment:
Assessment is assignment based. There are no exams.

Progression:
The internationally recognised BTEC course allow you to progress into employment, or continue to develop your skills at University. There are a variety of career opportunities to explore.

The BTEC National Diploma in Media Production is the equivalent of three A Levels, and it is possible for you to progress further into higher education. BTEC National Diploma qualifications give enough UCAS points for university applications.

Attendance - 2 year course, Full time, Approx 4 days a week If you are under 19 at the start of the course, and studying a full time course, there are no tuition / exam fees. If you are over 19, you are liable for tuition / exam fees - please contact Student Services.
