About this course

Course BenefitsThe MA is a full time intensive programme designed to provide:
The practical skills required for multimedia journalism.
A comprehensive understanding of professional journalism practice, including researching and substantiating news stories, interviewing techniques, establishing contacts, shorthand. 
The knowledge and ability to apply the legal and regulatory frameworks conditioning British journalism.
An awareness of the professional roles and regulatory responsibilities of journalists. 
A critical understanding of the political and commercial structures within which news media operate.
The opportunity to undertake a piece of substantive independent research relevant to journalism.​​

The normal entry requirement is a good honours degree qualification – minimum 2.2, preferably 2.1.
If English is not your first language IELTS 7.0 (with no less than 6.5 in any component) or equivalent is the minimum requirement.

Course Information​Trainees work in dedicated newsrooms and studios and undertake a wide range of live production to hone their skills. We continually partner with many major news organisations, including BBC North in Salford, ensuring you get access to the best quality placements, mentoring opportunities and expert industry speaker. ​​​There is a funding scheme which could help to support your studies here at Leeds Trinity – the Journalism Diversity Fund. The fund is aimed at people without the financial means to attend NCTJ-accredited journalism courses who can show they are either socially or ethnically diverse. The fund helps with both fees and living expenses.​ For more information go to the Fees and Funding tab or you can find full details about the fund here.​​​​ NCTJ accredited courseThis course is accredited by the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) and, during the course of their degree, students on the programme take the exams which lead to achieving the NCTJ Diploma in Journalism.​
