Who is this course for?
The course is designed for those who want to learn to type in the safest manner and without looking down at the keyboard, so it's for all levels of students from entry-level with little or no experience of using a computer to the advanced user.

What previous knowledge/experience are required?
No previous experience of computers is required.

What is the level of the course?
From E3 Elementry qualification for beginners to Level 2

What will the course cover and what can I expect to do by the end of it?
  • Touch-typing
  • Exercises in typing accuracy
  • Exercises in speed typing
  • Understanding of good health and safety practices
What teaching and learning methods will be used on the course?
At the WMC we employ a wide variety of Teaching & Learning strategies. These include practical classes, lectures, 1:1 tutorials, Computer Based Training using on line resources, project work and assessment of portfolios.

How will we assess your progress on the course?
Kewala software records each student's progress in a personal report. Students will also undertake speed-typing tests and proof reading exercises that build into a portfolio or final exam depending on the level students are working at.

What type of qualification will passing this course give me?
There are two qualifications for this course; Pitman exams and the Working Men's College certificate. Students may progress through the various levels of qualifications.

What extra study/practice do we expect you to do outside the class?
Students need to commit to making time outside of class to practice; at home or in the college using the ICT facilities.

What can I do after completing this course?
Students can progress to variety of courses depending upon their computer skills. The college offers a range of courses from Introduction to Computing to Advanced ECDL. Students should discuss with your tutor where to progress to at the end of the course.

Are there any other costs? (e.g. materials, equipment or books I need to buy before or during the course)
None. Handouts will be provided; though students should bring pen and paper to make their own notes.

Are there any other requirements?
You are required to attend every lesson on time.
