Explore different approaches to making large work using a variety of techniques and methods. Working to a set brief each week, respond to a number of stimuli including objects, found images, your sketches and imagination. Consider how scale affects composition, proportion and mark-making as well as how to use drawing and painting materials when working on big pieces.

Course programme

- Experimenting with a variety of large formats
- Scaling up preliminary sketches and studies
- Techniques to create large work using the floor, wall and other supports
- Artists who have created large scale work and their methods of making and display.

Mini lectures, set projects and briefings, individual and collaborative work and group discussions. Standard materials are provided including charcoal, ink, graphite, pastel, chalk and acrylics. Please wear comfortable clothes to allow easy movement. Feel free to bring your sketchbook or work that you’re interested in developing further. If you would like to buy art materials for your personal use outside of the course, City Lit students receive 10% discount off everything* from Cass Art, the UK's leading art supplies retailer.
