Level: This is an NVQ Level 4 course.

What is the NVQ Care Level 4 course?
This course is specifically designed for people who have managerial responsibilities.

This is a competence based qualification and is the preferred management qualification designed to help you meet the national standards used by NCSC. It includes a broad range of management skills but is clearly based in the context of Care Services. It will help managers to prepare for and meet the emerging regulatory requirements in the Care Services. This includes people with learning disabilities and those with mental health problems.

NB An interview is required before you can enrol on this course.

Course topics
The following 4 mandatory core units will be followed by all candidates:
  • Manage and develop yourself and your workforce within Care Services
  • Lead and manage provision of Care Services which respects, protects and promotes the rights and responsibilities of people
  • Develop and maintain systems, procedures and practice of care services to manage risks and comply with health and safety requirements
  • Lead and manage effective communication which promotes positive outcomes for people within Care Services
There is a wide range of other areas from which four more units are selected and will be closely related to the candidate's own working environment. Teaching and Learning
You will attend taught sessions at College which will include portfolio building to assist you in your evidence collection. There will be individual tutorials to assess existing competence and to develop your managerial skills.

You will be allocated an assessor who will carry out regular observations of you in your workplace.

Assessment details
You will be given a City and Guilds assessment pack and you will be required to produce a portfolio which will be both internally and externally verified.
