Working with people who have learning disabilities can be challenging and rewarding both for you, and them! Our stimulating and interesting course is aimed at giving you the theoretical understanding needed to inform good practice so you can help to improve the quality of their lives. This award leads to a triple professionally recognised specialist qualification of your achievement and will stand you in good stead when you make future career choices.
Progression:
This award can act as a stand-alone qualification to enhance employment performance and job prospects or as a progression route to Working with People who have a Learning Disability Level 4 or level 4 qualifications in a vocationally relevant area.
Entry Requirements:
In our experience in order to be successful on this level of programme you will need one of the following:
· 60-120 UCAS tariff points - any combination
· a BTEC national award in a related subject
· an NVQ level 3 in a related subject
· equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.
In addition, you must be working within vocationally relevant sectors as a manager or senior practitioner.
Duration: 22 months
Business Benefits:
LDAF (Learning Disability Action Framework) is now recommended as the most appropriate and significant qualification in learning disability.
The White Paper, Working People (2001), states that LDAF is the pathway of choice to professional training.
Course Overview
What does the course involve?:
This award, which is run in conjunction with the Michael Batt Foundation, leads to a triple qualification consisting of:
• Certificate in Working with People Who Have a Learning Disability (LDAF Level 3)
• NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care
• Humanistic Approaches to Supportive Certificate.
The course which is made up of 21 modules provides a detailed holistic approach to developing skills in supporting people with a learning disability to grow and develop in all areas of life.
These skills can be practically applied in your place of work and shared with other team members.
When can I study?:
Two days per month, 9.30am - 5.00pm
Are there any exams?:
You are required to complete an assignment for each module of study.
