This course will help you make the most of your smartphone. Many users are unaware of a smartphone’s full potential. You will learn some key terminology to help you understand how the smartphone works and identify for example the version of the ‘operating system’ you are using and what is SIM card. We will focus on some of the key features of the phone and how to use them - home screen, status bar, notifications and navigation bar. We will look at the settings including the initial set up and how to transfer information between phones including contacts and other key data, changing the display, using wifi and customising various features. We will focus on managing your apps – how to add them and delete them from your phone, where to put them, how to organise them so they are easy to find, how to navigate between different screens, how to pin apps to certain screens, what the difference is between an app and a widget. We will look at data storage – how to control this, how to free up space on your phone, how to make sure you don’t go over your limit, how to store large files such as photos and music. You will learn how to maximise the battery life of your phone and control which apps are running at any one time on your phone. You will also learn about security and how to make sure the data you access via your phone is safe and private especially when syncing. Finally you will look at a variety of popular apps you can use for example to make group video calls.
