This qualification focuses on fundamental Carpentry & Joinery practical skills and knowledge. Successful completion of the qualification will ensure that the learner will have gained an understanding of the core skills and knowledge required by a tradesman working within the sector. The qualification does not require occupational evidence. Course Content

Introduction to health and safety in construction
Introduction to the construction industry
Constructing through mortice and tenon joints
Constructing angled halving joints
Constructing bridle joints
Constructing stub mortice and tenon joints
Fixing architraves and skirting
Maths and English at an appropriate level

NOTE:
As part of your programme of study, there is an expectation that you undertake a timetabled work placement or experience block of learning, this is designed to enable you to gain experience of the industry

You will also have the opportunity to complete additional modules from our construction skills portfolio, Including: Electrical, Plastering, Brickwork, and Paint and Decorating, This will allow you to gain a wider experience of the industry and increase you skills.


Method of Study

There will be a combination of workshop based practical activities supported by formal demonstrations and classroom based theory.

Method of Assessment

On-going assessment will take place throughout the course. All assessments within this qualification are externally set (by City and Guilds), centre marked assignments and practical assessments.
