This qualification is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to be able to adapt gym instruction to accommodate adolescents providing an understanding of the physiological and psychological issues they face and how they affect their ability to exercise.
The Active IQ Award in Adapting Gym Instruction for Adolescents is a vocationally related qualification (VRQ), at level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework.
Progression- This qualification provides progression to NVQ Level 2 in Instructing Exercise and Fitness Gym Based.
- Candidates may also broaden their knowledge and skills by progressing to other Active IQ programmes
This qualification is delivered over one and a half workshop days with half a day assessment.
This qualification comprises two mandatory units:
Unit 1 – Physical, mental, cognitive and emotional development of adolescents in relation to gym instruction
Multiple choice theory paper (30 questions 70% required pass mark)
Unit 2 – Principles of adapting gym instruction for adolescents
