Changes to Door Supervisor training

Before applying for a front line SIA licence, private security operatives (with the exception of key holders) must attain a specified qualification. These qualifications are based on our competency specifications, which outline what an individual needs to know and be able to do in their role as a security operative.

The SIA have changed the competency specifications, which resulted in changes to the training and qualifications needed for an SIA licence.
The changes are largely at the request of, and incorporate extensive input from, the private security industry. The result is training that is industry-led and that contains relevant content developed with those working in licensable sectors.

The SIA are therefore introducing a modular structure to the qualifications. This means less overlap and duplication in training content across the sectors; it also makes it easier to gain qualifications for additional sectors, as just the relevant additional modules need to be taken.

How long is the course?

The course consists of 30 hours of training, and is usually delivered over 4 consecutive days. However a flexible option is available for various bookings.

What does the course involve?

Licence applicants must take the relevant modules for the sector in which they wish to work and obtain a licence.

Module 1. Working in the Private Security Industry

Module 2. Working as a Door Supervisor

Module 3. Conflict Management for the Private Security Industry

Module 4. Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry
