OCR Level 2 in Health and Social Care is a one year, work-related qualification for people who are passionate about care. It is designed to expand your knowledge and improve employability, through a mix of theory and practice. You will learn new skills which will be applied to a range of settings through your work placements.
About this course
This course is for students who would like to go into the HSC professions but have not got the required Maths or Eng quals to be able to study the level 3 HSC course.
On successful completion of this course it may be possible for you to progress on to the level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care, apprenticeship or employment.
If you are not from an English Language speaking country, you will need to have UKVI IELTS 5.5. We accept a wide range of academic qualifications awarded overseas and use the UK NARIC (National Academic Recognition Information Centre) guidelines for international comparisons. Course programme
- Students will study units including
- Communication in Health and Social Care,
- Meeting Individual Needs and Rights,
- Anatomy and Physiology
- The Impact of Diet.
- They will also be expected to study Functional Skills at an appropriate level.
You will require a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades A*-D including English and maths grades 9-3 (formerly A*-D) and science for some programmes. Alternatively successful completion of a relevant Level 1 qualification and have achieved a Level 1 Functional Skill in English and Maths.
What about work experience?
Students will be required to complete a minimum of 30 hours work experience as part of the full L2 HSC study programme. Before they do this they are required to have a clear DBS and will be expected to wear a college T shirt and black leggings and shoes in placement to show they are a college student.
