IT Practitioners
BTEC First Diploma - One-year course
The BTEC First Diploma for IT Practitioners will provide students with the experience and qualifications that will enable them to progress to Advanced Level study, or they may wish to apply for an Apprenticeship in a related job. Students will develop an understanding of how computer systems are used in the workplace.

They will understand and use various standard software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software.

Students will also learn how to produce advertising materials and web pages. Most of the work will be practical, using a computer. There will be various individual and group exercises set by the tutor. These will also include informal, individual tests which are designed to enable students to gauge their progress. Students will be shown how to research new areas using the College VLE, the Internet, books and magazines.

There will also be two weeks of IT related work experience which will allow students to gain experience of the use of IT in the workplace.

All work will be assessed through coursework.

Careers and Further Studies
The First Diploma provides a very good grounding for careers in Technical Support and a range of ICT-related businesses. Students will need to achieve either a Merit or Distinction within the BTEC First Diploma to enable them to progress to either the BTEC National Certificate or BTEC National Diploma at SEEVIC College.

General Entry Requirements
At least two GCSEs at grade D or above or a BTEC Introductory Diploma (or equivalent) in a related area at Merit level.
