The programme is a mix of practical and theory work and you will be shown how the theory relates to the practical work you undertake. There are six units of study: three mandatory and three support units.

Mandatory evidence routes:
Working safely in an engineering environment;
Working efficiently and effectively in engineering;
Using and communicating technical information.

Support evidence routes:
Preparing and using lathes for turning operations;
Producing components using hand fitting techniques;
Joining by welding.

About this course




Attendance is one day a week for 35 weeks, from 9am to 5pm. You should also bring a notebook and pen for the first lesson.

Course programme

This is an introductory programme for post-16 students wishing to gain experience in a fitting and turning environment in engineering. The programme is ideal for anyone wishing to go into employment in an engineering company or gain practical experience before continuing into more academic engineering studies.
Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations (Mechanical).
The way to achieve on this programme is by completing all the practical assignments and all the knowledge questions in the candidate portfolio for each of the five units. Your work will be assessed and marked by your tutor on a regular basis and you will be given feedback on how you are progressing.
An assessment plan will be developed to assist you in successfully completing the programme.
