AS/AGCE GERMAN

You will develop your German language skills by looking at German-speaking countries and exploring their societies, cultures and current affairs. The course aims to develop a high level of competence in understanding, speaking and writing German and a deeper knowledge of the culture and civilisation of Germany.

Length of Course
One year AS / two year AGCE

What qualifications do I need to study on the course?
Five grade C's or above at GCSE including a grade B in GCSE German.

What will I study?
The course will focus on:
· language skills in German (writing, speaking, reading and listening)
· German culture such as festivals and arts
· German history, politics and current affairs
· contemporary issues such as youth culture, health and fitness, education ad employment.

Method of assessment
You will be assessed through a series of examinations, both written and spoken, as well as a variety of coursework assignments.

What will I be able to progress to?
Languages can be studied on their own or in joint degrees with most other subjects. They combine well with areas such as business, finance, media, tourism, design and fashion, engineering, science and law or studied individually for careers in interpreting, translating and teaching.
