Introduction:
The course is designed for those who have Level 2 or post Level 2 in British Sign Language (BSL) or Irish Sign Language (ISL). The course will enable learners to communicate at a high standard with deaf people. It is aimed at those who would like to progress to Level 4 or interpreting stage. The course is ideal for those who work or have involvement with the deaf community.

Study Mode & Location:
This is a one year part-time course and will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent's Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
The units you will study are as follows:

· Y/500/2033- Sign Language receptive skills- receive and respond appropriately to varied British/Irish Sign language in a range of contexts and situations.

· D/500/2034- Sign language productive skills- produce varied British/Irish Sign Language in a range of contexts and situations.

It is CRUCIAL that you understand the volume of work that is required and level of commitment need to achieve the qualification and, as such, you need to allow for considerable time spent on private study if you are to be successful on the course.

Assessment:
Learners will follow a planned programme of study; this involves portfolio work, video evidence and meeting deaf people in the community. Successful completion will require you to complete at least 5 video clips covering 6 topics and the criteria in the Signature Qualification Specification.

Assessment will be as follows:
A video clip will be filmed and submitted by the learner; this will be then checked by the tutor and accepted or declined. Once accepted the relevant paperwork is then completed by the learner and checked and marked by the tutor.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
The successful learner at Level 3 has a number of successful progression routes including a range of studies such as deaf studies and NVQ Level 4's in a number of universities.

Qualification Specification from Signature (approx £5). One lever arch file, Mini Digital video cassettes, DVD recordable disks.

How To Apply
You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
