About this course
Five grade C's or above at GCSE. Ideally you will have taken Music at GCSE and achieved at least a grade C or above. You will need to play an instrument or sing to at least grade four standard and be able to read and write music to a reasonable standard. Acceptance on to this course is also dependent on a successful audition.

If you are a musician interested in music analysis, history, performing and composing then this is the subject for you. You will learn techniques that composers use to write music and develop these into your own compositions. You will participate in a range of activities including live performance of solo and ensemble repertoire. You will also compose for a string quartet or piano trio and will use the purpose built studio to make professional recordings.

What qualifications do I need to study on the course?
Five grade C's or above at GCSE. Ideally you will have taken Music at GCSE and achieved at least a grade C or above. You will need to play an instrument or sing to at least grade four standard and be able to read and write music to a reasonable standard. Acceptance on to this course is also dependent on a successful audition.
What will I study?
You will study a wide variety of music but will focus specifically on Mozart's Jupiter Symphony and Choral music from the Baroque period. In the first year you will study three Units:
· Solo and ensemble performance
· Composition
· Listening and historical understanding.
In the second year you will compose in different styles, study new set pieces and further develop the skills learnt in the first year.
Method of assessment
You will be assessed through a mixture of coursework, written examinations and timed practical tasks.
What will I be able to progress to?
This is an ideal subject if you wish to study music at university or at a music college. Music successfully complements other AS level subjects through the broad range of skills involved in the subject.
