This qualification covers the principles and practices of assessment. This one-unit theory award intended for those who wish to gain an understanding of the principles and practices of assessment. There is no requirement to carry out any practical assessment for this award. Those new to assessing can take this unit and gain an understanding of assessment principles and practices before they begin a role, taking additional units to become a fully qualified assessor, when ready. Potential candidates do not have to carry out any assessments of learners to complete this qualification What are the entry requirements? You should be at least 19 years old. AMBA does not set any other entry requirements but other colleges or training providers may have their own guidelines. The course covers: • Principles and requirements of assessment
• Different types of assessment methods
• How to plan for an assessment
• How to involve learners and others in assessments
• How to make assessment decisions
• The quality assurance of the assessment process
• Managing information relating to the assessment of occupational competence
• Legislation and good practice requirements in relation to assessment How is it assessed? The aim of this mandatory unit - Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment- requires you to know and understand the principles and practices that underpin assessment. You will need to write a reflective account demonstrating your knowledge and understanding and complete a workbook that shows your research into assessment practice and associated legal requirements. It will also be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods:- • observation of performance in the work environment
• use of others (witness testimony)
• examining products of work
• questioning the learner
• discussing with the learner
• looking at learner statements
• recognising prior learning. Do you need to be working to take the qualification? No, it is a knowledge only qualification. Who long does it take to complete? You can usually complete it in 3 months or less.# What related qualifications can you progress to?
